Volunteer Cores

YOU ARE NECTR!  This is a participant driven event that results from your energy and creativity.  There are many ways to volunteer and these cores are a great place to start.

Each core has at least one dedicated leader who will determine the shifts and specific responsibilities for people on that team before, during, and after the event.  Please sign up for at least one shift!

Bees

The NECTR Bees is a new core in 2024! This core replaces Rangers and is most closely related to the Gnome core found at some other events. Bees are the primary “roaming” volunteers at NECTR, helping to carry messages, do odd jobs, and help the other volunteer cores as needed. Volunteering for the Bees does not require training ahead of time, but written training materials for self-study will be available.

  • Queen Bee: – Staff the Bee Hive and be available for walk-up requests and questions (but you can step out for a break when you need to) – Be NECTR’s radio dispatcher: help make sure messages can flow across the event site – Dispatch your Worker Bees to take care of any infrastructure, logistics, or volunteer core issues that can be taken care of without escalation – Escalate things to the Event Lead or Board Member on-call if needed – Be relatively sober for your shift, so that you can carry out your duties and be a useful resource to the event
  • Worker Bee – Roam the event, alone or with your buddy, wearing your Bee Hat and radio – Check in with the different fixed volunteer locations (Gate, Sanctuary, etc) and see if they are staffed, if they need anything, etc – Take on tasks given to you by the Queen Bee – Keep an eye out for things that need doing – Be ready to step in to another volunteer role (e.g. gate, parking, etc) as needed if we are lacking coverage
